Carrie Underwood’s ride continues as she garners two 2008 CMA Award nominations- Album of The Year for the multi-platinum CD Carnival Ride with producer Mark Bright, and Female Vocalist of The Year, an honor she has won the past two years. Carrie learned the good news this morning as she was heading into tour rehearsals. “This is awesome! As an artist you always hope the music you record will touch people’s lives,” says Carrie. “There is nothing more rewarding than to be recognized by your peers and to know your fans are enjoying the same ride!” Carrie is the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry and a four-time CMA winner. Her current album CARNIVAL RIDE contains the new hit single “Just A Dream” and the #1 co-written smash hits “So Small,” “All-American Girl” and “Last Name.” Her debut album released in 2005, SOME HEARTS, was certified 7x-Platinum, becoming the best-selling solo female country debut in RIAA history and surpasses all other releases as the all-time U.S. top-selling album by any American Idol contestant. Carrie’s headline tour, the “Carnival Ride Tour,” kicks off its fall run on September 23 in Cleveland, Ohio at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University.  Little Big Town will open. She has a bit of an underdog story, as she originally tried out in 2003 but didn't make it past the initial audition rounds. In season five, however, she advanced to an impressive 12th place despite some harsh criticism from Simon Cowell. Unfortunately, Melissa forgot the words to "Lately" during Stevie Wonder week and the rest, as they say, is history. Melissa did return for the finale and sang "I Made It Through The Rain" with her fellow Idols and Carrie Underwood. She also sang a duet with Ace Young. Since her time on "Idol," Melissa has performed at quite a few festivals in her home state of Florida, and is said to be in the beginning phases of putting together her debut album. From Christmas to Country, the season five Idols are still making headlines in music news.  Billboard reports that Elliott Yamin’s holiday album, My Kind of Holiday, dropped just last week on 10/7.  The album reportedly gives some holiday classics the funky, soulful spin for which Elliott is known.  Taylor Hicks has aligned with Artist to Market, the artist services company, for the release of his next album, which is due out February 10, 2009.  Those who fell in love with Taylor by seeing him perform live on AI will also be glad to know that he is releasing "Whomp at the Warfield," a live DVD taped at a San Francisco venue.  Kellie Pickler proves that her successful debut album wasn't just beginner's luck, as her sophomore self-titled CD debuted at #1 on Top Country Albums and #9 on The Billboard 200.  Kellie is the sixth artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era to debut at #1 with her first two studio albums.  All of her predecessors were female, one of whom was Carrie Underwood.  By entering the country chart at #1, Kellie's second album is the 205th chart-topper to come from American Idol.
