Happy Birthday Ruben!
Get American Idols Live Tickets! American Idols Live is on tour now! Dubbed the Velvet Teddybear on season two of American Idol, Ruben Studdard has branched out in quite a few directions since his big win over Clay Aiken. Since being on AI, Ruben has released three albums--one in gospel and two in R & B. The first two albums he recorded while touring. For his third album, The Return, Ruben took some time off to dedicate to the recording, and he worked on it with a variety of big-name artists and producers. Living up to his reputation as the Velvet Teddybear, Ruben used his influence for an important cause around the time he made this third album. He worked on his own foundation, the Ruben Studdard Foundation for the Advancement of Children in Music Arts. The foundation gives grants and scholarships to music students, summer camps, and after school programs, which have been severely lacking in recent years.
Ruben has also taken on a number of small roles and cameos in several films and television shows. He has returned to "Idol" a couple of times, performing at the season six and season seven finales. For the season seven finale, he performed "Celebrate Me Home," which was actually used as the farewell song that season.
With music, film, and TV under his belt, Ruben decided to try some theater. He spent a few weeks touring with Robin Givens in the comedy-drama Heaven I Need a Hug and prepared to take on the role of Fats Waller in a national tour of Ain't Misbehavin' in 2008. The tour is scheduled to begin November 17, 2008 in Atlanta, GA and end May 14, 2009 in Syracuse, NY.
In between his second and third albums, Ruben also dedicated time to his health and losing weight, out of concern from family members and friends. He began a healthy vegetarian diet and an exercise program, and he lost approximately 70 pounds. On June 28 of this year, Ruben married Surata Zuri McCants in a private ceremony outside of his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Ironically, there was no singing during the short ceremony--only a simple exchange of vows, prayers and a string ensemble.

Season Five Billboard Scoop
Don't miss your chance to meet American Idols Live! Get your back stage passes here! From Christmas to Country, the season five Idols are still making headlines in music news. Billboard reports that Elliott Yamin’s holiday album, My Kind of Holiday, dropped just last week on 10/7. The album reportedly gives some holiday classics the funky, soulful spin for which Elliott is known. Taylor Hicks has aligned with Artist to Market, the artist services company, for the release of his next album, which is due out February 10, 2009. Those who fell in love with Taylor by seeing him perform live on AI will also be glad to know that he is releasing "Whomp at the Warfield," a live DVD taped at a San Francisco venue. Kellie Pickler proves that her successful debut album wasn't just beginner's luck, as her sophomore self-titled CD debuted at #1 on Top Country Albums and #9 on The Billboard 200. Kellie is the sixth artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era to debut at #1 with her first two studio albums. All of her predecessors were female, one of whom was Carrie Underwood. By entering the country chart at #1, Kellie's second album is the 205th chart-topper to come from American Idol.

Catching Up With Ramiele
Don't miss the chance to see American Idols Live! Get bargain American Idols Live Tickets here! Once Ramiele Malubay was chosen as one of the top 24 contestants in season 7 of American Idol, life for her has been anything but dull. After competing for five weeks knowing that she would be on tour during the summer, Ramiele stayed in L.A. This worked out well for her, as rehearsals for the finale and the tour began in earnest before the season even ended.
Life in the Idol world is always fast paced. As soon as the finale ended, rehearsals really kicked up and then the top 10 Idols were on the road, touring America from coast to coast. Luckily for us, Ramiele took some time out of her busy schedule while she was in Newark to share some thoughts about the past year.
Ramiele has had a great experience on the road and she notes that "every city is different. We try to get off the bus, put our stuff inside and go and sign autographs before we have hair and makeup done and do press and whatnot." Later, she followed up, "I really didn't come into this with any expectations. I just love getting off the bus in other cities. I love waking up in different cities."
While it sounds glamorous and exciting, being on the road can be somewhat exhausting. Ramiele, though, exclaims, "It's less exhausting than the show." Without having to stoicly receive feedback from the judges after every performance, she confirms there's just less stress. This is how Ramiele describes a typical day on the road for her:
"Usually, after a show, if we have a show the next day, we'll travel to the next city and it will be, like, a four or five hour drive. We get out of the bus, take all of our stuff out, go and sleep for a couple hours, get ready, get all of our stuff back, get our hair and makeup done, meet the sponsors, perform, meet people after the show and, then, we go sign autographs outside and, then, we go and do the same thing all over again." Whew.
"All of us have gotten it down to a routine schedule. We're working on getting things done quicker. You know, like hair and makeup because there are five girls and four of the girls are in the first set, so it's hard to get everybody done, but we're doing really well."
Being on tour is also quite different from being on the show in that she is now regularly performing in front of thousands and thousands of people. Laughing, Ramiele told us what kind of effect this has had on her:
"Backstage I freak out a little bit when I look into the audience. I go second, so when Chikezie is out there, I peek through the little cracks and see how many people are out there. I kinda freak out a little because there are so many people. Then, you go out there and you do the same songs every night. You don't have to learn new words or impress anybody -- you're just being yourself. Putting yourself out there for the people who have been watching you and supporting you."
Being away from family and friends for so long can be challenging, but she speaks to them often. When we spoke to her, Ramiele was missing her dog very much, but, fortunately, her boyfriend was coming into town with her dog for a visit. After the tour, Ramiele hopes to meet with some major studios and will be retuning to the Philippines in December to do a few concerts.
