She has a bit of an underdog story, as she originally tried out in 2003 but didn't make it past the initial audition rounds. In season five, however, she advanced to an impressive 12th place despite some harsh criticism from Simon Cowell. Unfortunately, Melissa forgot the words to "Lately" during Stevie Wonder week and the rest, as they say, is history. Melissa did return for the finale and sang "I Made It Through The Rain" with her fellow Idols and Carrie Underwood. She also sang a duet with Ace Young. Since her time on "Idol," Melissa has performed at quite a few festivals in her home state of Florida, and is said to be in the beginning phases of putting together her debut album. Life has been a whirlwind of activity for Jason Castro since Season 7 Finale, and americanidol.com was lucky to catch up with him from the road for a report on how things are going halfway through the 2008 Live Tour. Not surprising, the cool and collected Jason was very positive about the tour. “Seeing the country and getting to sing every night has been awesome, I’m having a blast!” Jason and the other nine are currently performing at their 26th city venue since embarking on July 1st. Interestingly, performing in front of an average 12 thousand live audience members on tour has been easier for Jason than singing in front of American Idol’s 30 million viewers. “[Performing] in front of the stage audiences was kind of strange. Because we were on TV, there were so many things you had to be aware of. To make it look normal on TV, you had to act abnormal.” In contrast, performing before a live audience “is a lot less pressure.” Which isn’t to say that when tour first started, it was a piece of cake. “For about the first week, I shook through every set, but now I’m pretty comfortable with it,” Jason explained. Exciting though it may be, touring can actually also be quite demanding. “The ‘day’ starts at midnight after we leave the city we just finished and we drive until the morning. Around 5 or 6, we’ll get into the hotel and then take a little nap and then around noon, we drive to the venue and have lunch. There we say hi to some fans and then we have an hour of press and then an hour of official meet-and-greets and then sound check and then dinner and then the show starts. And that’s a typical day.” So, what’s it like to see America this way? “Well, it’s pretty cool, but kind of rushed. You can’t hang out and see everything like you’d want to, but at least you’re seeing something, which is more than I was doing last year.” Given such a hurried pace, we wanted to know if there’s been a highlight so far. “New York was pretty crazy because we were there for an extended amount of time. I had a lot of fun there because my mom and my sister came out and my girlfriend. There’s a lot to do in New York," he chuckled.  Jason also told us what it’s like to go out as a group with the other Idols. “We kind of try to sneak around, hide in the corner.” Although Jason assured me that they do not wear disguises. Identifying the hardest thing about Tour was easy for Jason: Sleep. “Getting to sleep on the bus, and then having to get up at 5 in the morning and try to keep sleeping after that. Well, sometimes it doesn’t work. So when you don’t have your rest and you go and do stuff for 12 hours, it can wear you out. But then you have an off day and then everything’s better.” Given the rigor, it’s no surprise Jason misses aspects of home. “I just miss all the people and the simpleness of everything and just sitting around eating and stuff.” After tour, Jason looks forward to advancing his music career. “I’m gonna make some music. Planning to record and do some writing and get an album out, that’s the plan.” Jason had a few parting words to his fans. “I’d like to say ‘hey’ to my fans. Hope you don’t forget about me and you keep in touch. American Idols Live is on tour now! Get American Idols Live Tickets. Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis has laid out plans for his first national tour. Blake starts things off September 29 in Providence, RI, and continues traveling the East Coast. He'll have a full band with him and will play tracks from his album, A.D.D. (Audio Day Dream), as well as new songs. Plans for a West Coast leg of the tour are also in the works. Blake recently returned from a trip to Norway and Iceland with fellow Season 6 finalist Chris Richardson. They went with the Hollywood Knights, a non-profit group that raises money for cancer research. David Archuleta fans everywhere must be feeling like the holidays are coming early this year, as the extremely popular season seven runner-up is releasing his album TODAY!  In an interview with Reuters' Jill Serjeant, David wants his fans to know that they can expect more than ballads from his debut album, including one song that even has a "reggae-ish feel to it." As he explained in the article, "I did sing a lot of ballads on 'American Idol' because I felt I could connect with people most that way. But I don't want people to think that's all I can do..."  Fans have already proved that they are more than interested in what David releases, as his first single, "Crush" catapulted to number one on iTunes within 24 hours.  It also debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. While some might think "Archie," as he's known to his fans, is trying to get a leg up on season seven winner David Cook by releasing his CD a week before, he says that's just not so.  In fact, he says that there should be no comparison, as they are totally different artists.  As he explained to Reuters, "I know everyone wants us still to compare and compete, but we are so different. Cook is a rocker guy, a guitarist and an amazing musician, and I'm a pop kid." Carly Smithson, who became known as the Irish girl on season seven of American Idol, faced a bit of an uphill battle at the beginning of her AI journey. After initially making it through the Las Vegas auditions for season five, she ended up having to bow out of the competition due to her visa being delayed. Despite impressing the judges once again at the season seven auditions, Carly faced her next challenge. Some fans of the show thought it was unfair that she had once made an album, although it was barely promoted and the record deal was ultimately lost. She fought hard, however, to win over viewers with her upbeat attitude and her powerful vocals, and she not only accomplished that, but she ended her run in an impressive 6th place. Ironically, she was eliminated one day after Simon called her performance one of the best of the night. Since her time on "Idol," Carly has appeared on several television shows, and even filmed a commercial with fellow Idols Syesha Mercado and Brooke White. She is currently on the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2008, where she sings "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence, "Crazy On You" by Heart, and "I Drove All Night" by Cyndi Lauper. The tour wraps on September 13th, one day after her birthday!
