The Detroit Tigers are a professional baseball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Tigers are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From 2000 to the present, the Tigers have played in Comerica Park. One of the American League's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Detroit in 1894. The Tigers constructed Bennett Park at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull and began playing there in 1896. In 1912, the team moved into historic Tiger Stadium, which was built in the same location.

Tigers waste Galarraga's quality start
Righty Armando Galarraga allowed just one run on five hits in six innings, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead as the Tigers fell to the host Mariners, 3-2 on Saturday night. Carlos Guillen and Miguel Cabrera each homered.
Tigers glad West Coast almost done
The Tigers are 9-12 out west this season, and with Sunday's series finale against the Mariners, will be done with those long trips this season. Nate Robertson will take the mound in the final game of a four-game set.
Lefty Seay doing well vs. righties
The Tigers' Bobby Seay has the American League's sixth-best batting average against right-handed hitters by relievers, not something expected from a left-handed pitcher. Seay has some work to do against lefties, however, allowing them to hit .321 against him.
Pregame work helps Rodney find form
The Tigers have been having Fernando Rodney throw before games, and it appears to be working, as the right-handed reliever hasn't given up a run in his last five outings covering five innings.
Rogers on southern end of lefty battle
Kenny Rogers was strong on Friday, holding the Mariners to six hits, but the eighth inning proved his undoing, as he plunked Ichiro, who was doubled in to hand the Tigers a 4-1 loss to drop the club back to .500.
Sliding Renteria could sit Saturday
Tigers manager Jim Leyland is trying what he can to get Edgar Renteria out of his struggles, to no avail. But he's also trying what he can to get some offense. So on Saturday, he'll likely give Michael Hollimon another try for a game.
Tigers not rushing back Inge's return
Brandon Inge is doing about every part of his pregame routine nowadays, short of live batting practice. That doesn't mean he'll be playing in games again anytime soon.
Hollimon impressing in temporary stay
Michael Hollimon will likely return to Triple-A Toledo when Ramon Santiago is ready to come off the disabled list, but the way Hollimon has been playing, it isn't hard to envision him back in the bigs in the near future.
Mariners, Tigers welcome veterans
Colonel Bruce F. Meyers, associate dean of the Seattle University Law School, had experience in Korea and Vietnam, but was a bit nervous about throwing out the first pitch in Friday's July 4th matchup.
Tigers beat Silva for third time
Carlos Silva usually wins with ground balls, but he doesn't win much these days against the Tigers, who beat him for the third time, 8-4, on Thursday.
Leyland looking at Zumaya's future
While Detroit manager Jim Leyland emphasized that Zach Miner is not in the plans to join Detroit's rotation, he admitted Thursday that he has pondered Joel Zumaya's ultimate future as a starter. It won't happen soon, but it doesn't mean it won't ever happen.
Cabrera returns to Detroit lineup
The Tigers still have a void in their run production with Magglio Ordonez on the disabled list, but they've regained the services of fellow slugger Miguel Cabrera.
Guillen has fond memories of Seattle
Carlos Guillen seems to be happy the way things have turned out for him in Detroit, enough so that he doesn't necessarily miss Seattle.
Bonine has rocky debut vs. AL
Eddie Bonine's first career start against an American League team wasn't a pleasant experience, as the Tigers lost to the Twins, 7-0.
Surging Tigers stroll into Seattle
The Tigers entered their series with the Twins as one of the hottest teams in baseball. They lost two of three, but they get to regroup and face the Mariners, whom they have been able to handle thus far this season.
Miner optioned to Triple-A by Tigers
The Tigers optioned pitcher Zach Miner to Triple-A Toledo and recalled Aquilino Lopez prior to Wednesday's game against the Twins. Lopez will be in Minneapolis and in uniform for the contest.
Cabrera out of lineup Wednesday
Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Twins, but manager Jim Leyland said he will be available to pinch-hit.
Former teammate gets best of Tigers
Nate Robertson played with fire for three innings on Tuesday against the Twins. In the fourth inning, facing Craig Monroe, he got burned for a three-run shot, as Minnesota handed Detroit a 6-4 loss.
Granderson looks to give Tigers spark
Curtis Granderson is on a tear. It's probably no coincidence that the Tigers are, too. Granderson has batted a blistering .398 (33-for-83) since June 7. The Tigers are 18-5 in those games.
