Kansas Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
It's not easy trying to forget an unforgettable season.
But that's the approach Kansas must take after going 12-1 last season with a victory against Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
The only way for the Jayhawks to successfully follow their breakthrough season is not to dwell on the past. Sure, they should use the run, which included a 7-1 mark in the Big 12, to build confidence, yet not get carried away.
"We are just trying not to get complacent and know that we have to work hard to get where we were last year," said cornerback Chris Harris, the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2007. "We are not even talking about last year, because it is a new year. We just have to rebuild." Fortunately for the Jayhawks, the process isn't altogether complex with...

Longhorns look to stay in chase against Kansas
He's a proud kid, an undersized quarterback who grew up in Texas and loved his home state Longhorns -- only to be spurned by them. Todd Reesing's also a straightforward kid. He won't deny that getting ready to lead Kansas against the fourth-ranked Longhorns on Saturday is causing his competitive heart to beat a bit faster.

Kansas Team Report
During the non-conference portion of the schedule, Todd Reesing was doing everything possible to help Kansas win.
Too much so, in the eyes of his coach.
"I just want him to play quarterback,'' Mark Mangino said when asked for another appraisal of the diminutive, but gutsy, junior. "I don't want him to think that has to do everything.''
In Reesing's defense, it's easy to understand how he can fall into such a trap.
The Jayhawks (3-1) are struggling to get untracked on the ground, where their 119-yard average per game ranks 11th in the Big 12. Three backs have alternated, with the third-teamer at the start of the season, Angus Quigley, positioned as the starter entering the Big 12 opener Oct.

Freshman kicker gives USF dramatic win over Kansas
South Florida coach Jim Leavitt had a hunch about Maikon Bonani that turned out to be right. The freshman's third field goal, a 43-yarder as time expired Friday night, gave the 19th-ranked Bulls a 37-34 victory over No. 13 Kansas in a game both viewed as an opportunity to make a strong case for more national attention.

Harper expected to return this season
Late in the first quarter against Louisiana Tech, Kansas coach Mark Mangino took off his headset and turned to talk to a player. What he saw caught him off-guard. Cornerback Kendrick Harper, who had walked off the field after making a tackle a few minutes earlier, was being wheeled to an ambulance, head immobilized, body strapped to a stretcher.

Defying coach's plea, KU students chant
Thousands of Kansas students ignored coach Mark Mangino's plea and went ahead with a profane chant when No. 16 Kansas kicked off against Colorado on Saturday. As the chant resonated across Memorial Stadium, alumni and other fans booed. The chant was first heard at Kansas in 2003 and has brought complaints from university officials and fans who say it's an embarrassment.
