The Edmonton Oilers are a professional National Hockey League (NHL) team that is a member of the Western Conference, Pacific Division. When the Oilers first started out in 1972 they were called the Alberta Oilers, but that only lasted one season. In 1973 the team changed their name the Edmonton Oilers and they were playing for the World Hockey Association (WHA). In 1979 when the WHA and the NHL merged, the Oilers became one of the four expansion teams to join the NHL. The Oilers have gained Dynasty Status in the Hockey Hall of Fame after winning 5 Stanley Cups, 7 Conference Championships, 2 Presidents' Trophies, and 9 Division Championships. The Oilers have had many great players over the years like Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Adam Oats, Norm Ullman, Jacques Plante, Jari Kurri and many more.
