Nicholas, who shares lead vocals with Joseph in the group, began singing as soon as Jonas Brothers could talk. "From the time I was two years old, I would wake up in the morning and start singing all the time, every second of the day," Jonas Brothers says. Joseph first dreamed of becoming a comedian and wanted to audition for sketch comedy shows. "But I was always attached to music and loved listening to different kinds of music, especially rock," Jonas Brothers says.

The band started as a solo project of Nick Jonas. When Nick was six years old, Jonas Brothers was discovered while singing at a barber shop and was referred to a professional show business manager. At the age of 7, Nicholas began performing on Broadway. He has acted in several plays, including A Christmas Carol (in 2000 as Tiny Tim and Scrooge at eight), Annie Get Your Gun (in 2001 as Little Jake), Beauty and the Beast (in 2002 as Chip), and Les Misérables (in 2003 as Gavroche). After Les Misérables closed, Jonas Brothers performed in The Sound of Music (as Kurt) at the Paper Mill Playhouse.

Inspiration for the group's songs comes directly from the boys' personal experiences--from the highs and lows of dating to being on the road to having been given the opportunity to follow their dreams at such a young age. "A lot of it is about typical teenage love stuff like 'Oh, what am I going to do if I can't see Jonas Brothers's today?' It's not stuff that we don't know about," says Nicholas.
